Premiership: Worcester boss Steve Diamond adds Argentina prop Santiago Medrano to squad
Worcester Warriors have announced the signing of 25-year-old Argentina tighthead prop Santiago Medrano from Western Force.
The front-rower has 30 international caps for his nation and was part of the squad that provided Los Pumas with their first ever win over New Zealand in the 2020 Rugby Championship.
Medrano will leave his Super Rugby side for Sixways to become Steve Diamond‘s fourth signing as lead rugby consultant. joining forwards Curtis Langdon and Cameron Neild from Sale alongside fellow Force player Fergus Lee-Warner.
“Santi is a dynamic, powerful and mobile prop,” Diamond said.
“He comes highly recommended and, at 25 years-old with 30 caps under his belt, has the ideal profile I am looking for to join the club.”
The 6’4″ prop started his rugby journey at Regatas Bella Vista club where he also represented Argentina U20s during his latter years there.
He then made the switch to Super Rugby where he joined the Jaguares for three seasons before signing for the Force last year.
Medrano is looking forward to testing himself in the northern hemisphere for the first time when he joins Worcester in the Premiership, having only played in the Argentine Top 12 and Super Rugby.
“I’m delighted to be joining Worcester Warriors. From the moment I spoke with Steve, I knew this was the club for me,” Medrano said.
“The Premiership is the best competition in the world. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and play in front of our fans at Sixways.”
