Harlequins lock in Alex Dombrandt to ‘long-term’ deal

Harlequins have been handed a boost after it was announced that England back-row Alex Dombrandt has signed a new deal at the Premiership champions.
Dombrandt, 24, has inked a “long-term” contract after developing into a Test player and he looks set to add to his two caps in the upcoming Six Nations.
He joined Harlequins from Cardiff Met University for the 2018/19 season and has played 87 games, scoring over 200 points and becoming a star player.
Continue that growth
“This is a club that I’ve supported growing up. I used to come and watch Quins as a kid, so to stay at the club that is close to my heart, I’m very happy to do that,” Dombrandt said.
“Coming from university and into the professional environment, I feel like I’ve grown on and off the pitch. For me it’s just about being able to continue that growth, get better each day and go from there.
“We’re trying to create something really special at Quins and obviously winning the Premiership last season was amazing, but we don’t want to sit on what we did last year. I think we’re in a really good spot at the moment.”
Director of Rugby Performance Billy Millard said: “We’re delighted that Alex has re-signed with the club. Dommers has grown and developed since joining us from Cardiff Met a few years ago. Almost as much as his rugby he’s developed really well as a leader, and gone on to earn his international recognition off the back of his form with us.
“We’re thrilled that Dommers has recommitted his future with Quins and look forward to seeing him continue to thrive in the Quarters.”
EPCR hoping for modification of French quarantine rules
European rugby chiefs are seeking a modification of French quarantine rules that could threaten Champions Cup and Challenge Cup matches this weekend.
Bath, Sale Sharks and Scarlets are due to play in France against La Rochelle, Clermont Auvergne and Bordeaux-Begles respectively on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the second tier competition, Newcastle Falcons are scheduled to visit Biarritz on Friday.
